| WHAT'S A FLOWERHORN? |
The Flowerhorn cichlid is a hybrid cichlid "made" originally in Malaysia. Like all other "hybrid" species, including fancy goldfish and even Dachshund dogs, the selectively bred animals have been given special features which are not found collectively in any other species.
Why Should I Consider a Flowerhorn For My Pet?
The Flowerhorn is a rare cichlid only because it is specially bred from earth's most beautiful cichlids. This means that they are each one of a kind. While you could have a Jack Dempsey cichlid of good color, it will look almost exactly like your neighbors. Nothing unique about it.
This is not how it is with Flowerhorns.
How Should I Pick My Flowerhorn?
Flowerhorn are judged by many different factors because no two fish are alike. Factors such as the redness of the eye, which should be like bright fire. The head-hump should be large but not creased. The fins should be long. The body should be wide and full. Finally, the colors should be balanced and bright. This site will attempt to illustrate, with comparative photos, the differences between good Flowerhorns and "great" Flowerhorns.
What's So "Fun" About Flowerhorns?
I have a Flowerhorn in my office named Bebe. She's a cutie, about 10 inches long, fat, with gorgeous color. She's personable, does acrobatics, and she responds to me. We have a relationship as I am her company and she is my company while I work on my web sites. You don't derive this from a community tank or most other cichlid types. |
